Description

Name: Charybdis
Alias: Atlantis Whirlpool(Atlantean), Monster of The Strait(Hyperborean), Chary(for short)
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Kaiju Rank: 5

Stats
Length: 125 Meters
Weight: 31,000 tons

Powers:
-Squishy: Thanks to cartilage and slightly elastic skin, Charybdis can somewhat change her body anatomy. Sometimes she can make herself very flat like a flounder fish(also able to bend her fin down). She can also widen her jaw and her stomach, inflating like some oversized puffer-fish and allowing her sharp denticle covered skin to spike out more prominently. Even go as far as swallowing a stomach full of water.
-Hydrokinetics: Somehow Charybdis grew the power to manipulate the water. None of the species used could do this; that is as far as anyone knew. Yet, she can indeed manipulate water to an extent where it can cause damage in the immediate area. Tidal waves are a common attack.
-Whirlpool Shark: Charybdis is a monster that has both the qualities of a filter-feeder and a predator in one. Through all the mixed DNA’s that was used, she was given a special organ in her head that allows the continual suction of water. Using chambers to creature a constant negative pressure, Chary can creature a constant flow that is so powerful that it make creature a whirlpool from several-hundred feet below the surface.
-Water Cannon: Working the organ in reverse, she can also creature a massive flow of water out. It’s not as strong as say a beam attack or anything, but it can still do fair damage to buildings and kaiju, depending if there weakened to it.
-Born a Mother: Throughout Charybdis life and any of her offspring(Shairka), she is pregnant. Her body holds the living embryos in suspended animation and at any time become pregnant. It is actually a very fast process; At the very most, within a few hours at the least. This is a failsafe for if she is ever mortally wounded and risk dying, her body will continue to nourish and grow the offspring until they are ready to be born. Even if she is already dead, her body will continue to do this until the process is done. Course, then the offspring would have to rip free from her body…
-Amphibious: Charybdis can breathe the common air and even crawl out onto land. But it’s a very silly looking thing to do. Similar to watching a seal or walrus flop across the land.

Weaknesses:
-Water Bound: Able to come onto land is one thing. Able to do it well is another. Hardly any agility or mobility, she can be very open on land.
-Fragile Skin: Being a fish out of water, Charybdis can be very vulnerable to drying her skin out. Flames can even do worse if she is unable to keep herself moist and wet.
-Indecisive: Charybdis is torn between her instincts, her upbringing and her nature. Today she can be indecisive and confused of where exactly to stand when it comes to choosing sides, or taking action.

Personality: Throughout Charybdis life, her personality has changed with her age. She used to be much like Shairka, but though all the years she has been through much that has changed her mindset. While she is very calm most of the time, she can also be very violent and dangerous. This is because ages ago when the Great War was coming to its end, she was affected by the mass insanity that was C’thun’s dreams. To this day she is torn between what her natural nature says, what her upbringing says, and sadly what Carcharenia says…sometimes.

Epoch: Atlantis/Hyperborean War to Present Day

History
Long ago during the war between the two great nations that was once known as Atlantis and Hyperbrea, many monsters were created for various purposes. Cost-free and efficient, Typhon and Echidna were truly perfect weapons. They were powerful on their own, stronger together, and if that wasn’t enough as is, they could endless breed themselves an army of children that could fit any description and solve any problem.
Colchia was a great example of that. Breed to resist the Golden Fleece, she was proof that the two monsters could just go about their nature and in the end create a perfect weapon.

However, there was one flaw that Artemis and the other rulers of Atlantis overlooked. While both monsters were perfect at their jobs, they could only ever do so much. Echidna could only birth so many monsters at once, and then there was the gestation period, then the task of birthing… In short, it was a slow process in the short run. This became a serious problem at one point.
About the early point of the war, not too long after Hydra’s birthing, war had gotten to a horrific point where every soldier and every monster was busy fighting. Then Pegasus came along, topped with Emymanth and other horrific monsters that were not even directly connected with the war. Everything was in ordered chaos, as it came with war in general. During this time, some threats started to come by sea and leading to major lose upon Atlantis’s own land. Poseidon was outraged and felt unfairly treated. The main military was made of so many war beasts to fight, where he had nothing but machines.
“This is an outrage!,” he bellowed, “How am I to fight these monoliths of stone with my limited power? And then you say I must improve? Do you not think I have tried?”
“Calm down, Neptune,” Athena urged.
That caused him to flip. “Calm down? Bah! I can NOT do this. You!,” pointing to Artemis. “Breed me monster, THIS INSTANT!”
Zeus shouted, “CALM YOURSELF, Poseidon!” His word law, the angry Navy Captain calmed himself. “Now,” he went on. “Artemis, can you do this?”
“No, I can’t. Echidna is already carrying triplets,” she said, who would one day become Chimaera. “She is not where near close to birthing, let alone the time to raise them, then her body would have to recover to produce another custom made monster. Maybe next time, but-”
She was cute off by Poseidon. “But you can’t.”
“What’s worse, “ Zeus continued, “is that we need both Typhon and Echidna on the front. We can’t spare anything right now.”
After that day, Poseidon took an interest DNA splicing in the same laboratory that first brought out the two monsters. “If they can’t make me a monster, I’ll make my own.” Artemis was there to help of course. It didn’t take them long to decide on a plan. Both of the recognized the oceans most efficient predator to ever exist.
The Shark.
Artemis had great approval. Yes, it wouldn’t be too difficult to create yet another hand-made monster. Nowhere near as difficult after Echidna and her mate. After a great deal of searching for the perfect sources of DNA, they had found a goldmine of sharks in a place that, which was mostly avoided, that they called “The Sea of Sharks”; A name that was given for good reason. In time, this place’s true name was The Oceans Rest. Course, Atlantis never knew that.
This deep pocket of ocean that went so deep was home to the last ruminants of a time before the dinosaurs themselves. Indeed there was a time where 90% of the oceans life was sharks of various shape, size, and color. A regular reef of sharks, newly evolved and out competing the armored fish at the time.
Right away specimens were collected. Many were dissected; others keep alive for behavior studies. Several species were taken into consideration. One species in particular was a massive predator called “Charybidacanthus”. A massive predator, it resembled a shark that truly belonged to hell itself, or someplace far worse than hell could have. It had the anger of a god and the appetite of a bottomless pit. These traits were perfect for a sea-monster to fight the enemy. Save, some of the behavior would have to be bred out of it. Especially the seemingly wild mood swings. It didn’t take much to set the animal off.
The search continued for a few weeks, while Neptune also tried to defend the borders by sea in an ever failing attempt. Many forces had to be drawn back to the homeland and much resource and power went into absolute defense.
At last, a few species from the Sea of sharks were discovered and there traits were perfect. A peaceful bottom-dwelling predator, a wide-mouth plankton eater, and several other species that had various other major adaptations.
It was time to use plan “Hells Aquarium“.
Splicing was easy. History allowed Artemis the knowledge of what to do with what she had. A slight more difficult process came that took longer. The ability to make the creature imprint on one person for a strong bond and give it an emotional attachment to make it protective of its owner(and hopefully the rest of his people). Making it bigger and fiercer, they made it female. Adding onto that, Poseidon had one more idea. To make it born pregnant…
It took a day or two, but the DNA sequence was complete. All that was left to put the embryo into a artificial womb.
Within two weeks, the creature was ready to be born. The day of its birth, Poseidon was there when it first took in its first sights. It was love at first sight. Not just for the shark, but for him too. Poseidon grew attached very fast like a child does with his first pet. Since the base DNA was of Charybdicanthus, she was dubbed Charybdis.
With the feedings, she was growing daily. Within a short time, she grew to a decent size of 50-meters. None a moment too soon either. Another attack was coming on the north shore and it was now a good as time as ever to test the new navy weapon.
Walking up to her that day, Poseidon decided to test the bond they had. “Charybdis…” The shark reacted like a dog that was called for. “Horrible enemies threaten my land… they threaten me and my family, my friends…” as he spoke, she became agitated. She understood perfectly. Poseidon was very pleased at how loyal his new pet was. “Yes, you know what I’m saying.” he signaled for the gates to the ocean to be opened. “Charybdis! GO! SPLIT SHIPS! DRINK THE SEA! CRUSH THE GOLEMS! DESTROY MY ENEMY!” Racing out of the gate, the shark left with one thing on her mind: KILL, KILL! PROTECT! KILL!”
The fleet of ships and golems coming by sea was demolished. It wasn’t the biggest threat to come by sea, but it was large enough to cause serious damage. True to his words; Ships were split in two and sank to the bottom. The ocean churned and swirled violently, pulling more to their doom. Many drowned in the process. Golems were torn limb from granite limb. It became a notable graveyard just off the coast of the Atlantis continent.
Since that day, Charybdis was deemed the new protector of the sea. She was just what was needed for the country. Once again, the war shifted sides. Now it was hit and misses for both sides. As time went by, the protector of the shore that came to be known as “Atlantis’s Whirlpool” grew more and more, until she was an astounding 100 meters in length, and still growing.
However, not only did her size grow. Her adoration for her owner and his people grew too. In time she was every bit as family as any of the Echidna Brood that was still expanding every day. Poseidon was greatly satisfied with his newfound weapon and pet. Almost every day he was training with her, running patrols along the coast. Some days even going on the offense with her and giving the Hyperborean’s one hell of a reason to fear the water.
Then, in modern terms, shit hit the fan.
With the growing restless stirrings of C’thun came, so did more disaster. Almost no kaiju was affected by such dreams. Almost none… but Charybdis was. Nothing happened at first, but there were days where the shark would become ignorant to her orders and such. Poseidon convinced everyone she just may be tired and wanting to rest, to be left alone. It seemed to be the case, as he would let her rest for some time and she would fine for many weeks to come.
As the day Typhon was slain and Typhoon born, much changed for Atlantis. Echidna was in so much pain that she was about to go insane without her love. Finding comfort in the ancient wyrm Pythos, she found a new love very fast. So came about the idea to breed the dragon and gorgon.
Many of the Atlantis leaders were unsure if Echidna could still do her job of breeding monsters with some other monster like Pythos. Yet it was in high demand as the war got worse with the war becoming even bloodier. A shot in the dark, Echidna and Pythos were mated and brought forth a new monster.
Scylla.
Scylla was much like her mother in every way. Sweet, kind, gentle… but at first Atlantis found her to be useless. She was too-human like. Very vein, very snooty, and could throw a fit like no other. Those outbursts got even worse when she began to mature. Like her sister Hydra, Scylla grew several chimerical heads and became a hostile, dangerous monster that no one wanted near the city.
Solving two birds with one stone, Scylla was placed on marine front with Charybdis. At first, Scylla was hateful toward the shark. But in a short time, they two bonded quite well. For once in her life, the hydra-monster was not being pointed at and reminded she was an ugly monster all the time. Charybdis didn’t care either way. In turn, Charybdis just felt the same urge to protect what she was brought up to protect on an even more personal level. No other monster was ever out in the water with her like this. Indeed, these two kaiju had become the bread and butter of the Atlantean navy.
Now with two monsters in the water, Atlantis again was gaining the upper hand for a short time. Since Scylla wasn’t a failure, per say, Pythos would continue participating in the program as if nothing happened.
The final era of the war was upon the four nations. No one could guess that of course, but during this time came a great battle that would be passed down humanity for ages to come as one of the very most famous myths ever.
The captain of the Hyperborean navy, Odysseus, led an attack to Atlantis. Long already had he heard of the Atlantis Whirlpool. Yet, he had a plan to gain past her. Charybdis could not be in two places at once. No one could. The idea was to distract her with decoy ships and golems while the Hyperborean’s landed onto the shore. Certainly it was golden and he led a massive armada to take the capital ocean port of Atlantis.
However, they did not expect the new monster Scylla.
The idea to distract Charybdis worked grand. Odysseus almost made it through. Then Scylla rose from the waters, attacking them and devouring the puny humans as they attempted to fight back. Not long after, Charybdis returned and both monsters had wiped out the entire fleet. Both relished in eating their fill of the enemy.
All but a few survived. One was Odysseus. Yet he was mortally injured. If it wasn’t for the rescue party, the sea would have claimed him. Odysseus, as valuable as he was, could not be lost. He and what few survived were rushed into the Hero Program. His surviving men and a few newcomers became his crew.

With more power than ever, he had a score to settle. Those confounded monsters had terrorized the waters between the nations for far too long. When he was ordered to take them both down, Odysseus was more the overjoyed to fulfill those orders.
Again he set sail and this time he did it alone with his small crew and a massive ship. For golem standards, it was small, but the Argo(named after the powerful golem) was a massive sea vessel like no other. The moment the ship entered the water, both Atlantean monsters were upon I within the hour. What began was a war all of its own with the hate for one another fueling it like a watery bonfire.
Odysseus was equipped for the water and he himself leapt into the water many times to face the shark. The crew fought with the multiple headed sea monster, Scylla. It was a fair enough trade with each side making its blows.
For three long, agonizing days, the battle raged on. The battle seemed to conquer a hurricane, feed by the bloodshed itself. The battle carried on, thought he ocean and toward the inland sea that is the Mediterranean and all the way to the Strait of Messina. It was here the battle took a turn in the favor of the monsters. In the narrow strait, Charybdis swam in a tight circle. Using her powers, the narrow straight turned into a massive whirlpool for the ages. A truly massive, swirling vortex of death that had held the enigma signature of something wicked and vile.
The unfortunate massive ship and its crew were quick caught into it the current. For an hour the massive swirling of water tossed them around like a bath toy. Odysseus who was already outmatched and still hanging on, had to escape. He leapt into the sea and used propellers and hydrokenesis to swim to the closet thing he could get too. A massive rocky cliff hanging over the empty ocean. In horror he watched as his crew was picked off by Scylla before dragged down into the deeps to never be seen again. Both monsters finished off the lesser golems. Nothing was left but there ruble remains.

Many long days past, and Odysseus had not moved. His damages were severe. Only thing that wasn’t torn or bent was his orichalcum features. Down below, the shark patrolled the waters. Back and forth, every day. Once a day she would suck in the sea to feed and spit the rest at the hero trying to knock him down. But Odysseus was more tenacious and driven then to just be knocked down. Scylla was miles off yet, holding off the rescue parties. Both monsters wanted to finish the job and get the last hero. No survivors.
After the fifth day, the golem had had enough of waiting. If he was to die, he would do it upon his own terms and no others. When the shark began sucking the sea in again for the second time today, Odysseus leapt from his perch and straight into the monsters head. Taken by surprise, Charybdis began thrashing and biting wildly out of instinct. Odysseus raised his orichalcum spears and began to stab and gore the fish in the head repeatedly. Never once has anyone gotten the better of Charybdis. This was a first. At last she gained a grip on the hero began to shake furiously.
For a great time, both mauled each other to near death. Odysseus only let go when his foe passed out. Even then he stabbed more and more… at last, he blacked out as well. He sank into the clear shallows, while Charybdis floated, apparently dead.
Odysseus was the first to wake. He gained his footing and began scaling the land to find his way back home. Charybdis did not wake.
Scylla came and found her friend injured but alive. With the help of some of her siblings, they brought the fish back home to recover. Far as both sides knew, they had killed each other. In truth, both were recovering, alive and well.
Yet in her times recovering, Charybdis was distraught. Never once had she failed in anything for the war. Yes, both she and Scylla felt the same, but for some reason it made Charybdis exceptionally angry. It continued to claw at her mind endlessly. Day, night, and the dreams got worse.
For a while, all was fine. Even as the insanity was being wiped out by Typhoon like it was a true disease, Charybdis continued to grow even more frantic. Her moments became so bad that she was for a time quarantined until she was deemed fit. Her caging didn’t last long.
Only a week later, Typhoon went rogue. Everything that the war was fighting for, on each side, began to fall apart and crumble into pandemonium and failure.
Things got even worse for the nations. One final horrific dream came… One of a mammoth shark twice her own size with bloodlust and rage like no other. It flowed into her like she drank it straight from a cup.
As it turned out, the species Charybdicanthus was no ordinary kaiju shark. That particular species hailed a bloodline and mind link with C’thun’s sibling, Carcharenia. As C’thun stirred, so did some the siblings. Domino effect, all this time Charybdis was growing ever more wild.
Her nature exploded violently. One, two, three attempts to break the gate open, and she released herself back into the waters between Hyperborea and Atlantis. Like Typhoon himself, she tore through both nations alike. Coastal settlements and ships were attacked without any mercy. Blood filled the waters. Any survivor of her attacks were quickly picked off by ocean predators attracted by the blood.
When Poseidon got the news, he was devastated. His long war friend and pet had gone mad like a rabid dog. Just like a rabid dog, he would have to put her down. Scylla was still in his forces, and even thought she didn’t agree, she went along to try and help her companion.
All the while, Hyperbore and Atlantis were both trying to bring Typhoon down; failing miserable in the process. Poseidon lead his own forces to deal with his former pet.
Charybdis was found attacking a settlement off the coast, on a small island. By now her destruction had warranted attention from several smaller average sharks and predators that took advantage of the free food. Upon seeing the oncoming forces, her attention turned and the battle began.
The fight was a bloodbath. While military vessels fired and tried to shock the shark into submission, Scylla was in the middle. At first she attempted to reason with her. She cried, pleaded, begged… Unfortunately, with each strike upon her, the water-hydra lost her temper. Friend or not, she became angry and frustrated and began to fight relentlessly.
Out of the two, Charybdis was a far more perfect monster. In the water, she was virtually unstoppable. With each attempt to strike the shark, she was countered and another piece of her was torn away. At long agonizing last, after all the bloodshed and destruction, Scylla managed to stop Charybdis by throwing herself right into the shark’s path and taking a hit. Losing so much blood, she managed to hold on and beat the mad shark so badly that the shark passed out from bleeding.
It was during this short moment that for the first time, she went into labor. Programmed into her DNA, her body was in risk of dying. Her body was about to be moved back to the homeland when she birthed three newborn pups. Two of them swam free. The last was a runt that was too weak to flee. The Atlantean’s captured the newborn so it would not grow into a beast like its mother, bringing the baby back home with them.
Charybdis was put into a secure lagoon. She was still out cold, the baby into her own. Both were kept under lock and key in fear of a second escape. Their fate would never be decided, sadly. After Scylla came back beaten so badly, Echidna had flipped her lid. For a while she had questioned her creators and each day she grew angrier with each passing day.
This was the final straw.
Echidna led her entire family to rebel against their own people. Some greeted it, others in turmoil.
When it was all over, Charybdis was left in her secured chamber. Under lock and key already, Poseidon paid his respects to his pet who he suspected was doomed to die from her battle. The newborn was sealed into a small container and, thanks to Poseidon’s request, both were left in there island lagoon just off the coast the mainland. When the lands both sank, so did the island…
For many, many years, they would sleep and rest. Until one day a young girl would stumble across the container and unknowingly set the fate of a bigger event…

Present Day
Deep below the ocean, after thousands of years… something stirred. About the same time Scylla was freed from her tomb by her sister, another tomb creaked and cracked with age. It didn’t help an enigma disturbance damaged it some years earlier. Deep inside, a menacing mindset grew more conscious until it thrashed and broke free.
Charybdis was free again!
Unlike long ago however, her bond was completely gone. The last time she was awake, she was driven mad by her ancestry. Now with no one around, her mind flew into frenzy as it did so long ago.
For as long as two years, Charybdis tore through the ocean, attacking anything she could out of an endless, maddening rage. Nothing was safe… and no one lived to tell of the attacks that took so many ships now. Stone ships that carried golems were not match for her, and now these smaller, metal boats were nothing but a nuisance.

Ever since her own release, however, Scylla had searched for her long lost friend. In this new world, she hoped things would be different from ages long past. But when she found the place at long last, she found the tomb torn asunder from the inside and the area completely empty. It worried and excited her.

For a long time she would search. At least she did, Scylla regretted it. She approached the trench she sensed her friend in… only to have Charybdis rocket up and attack her like a mad dog. Scylla was shocked when she found the teeth of her friend boring into her and shaking her around. What else to do; she had to fight back. Oh the terrible memories of the past came flooding back as she began to retaliate with her many heads.
After a good hour, though, Scylla was exhausted and bled by the tons. Some of her heads were missing, and she was desperate to escape. For the most part, so was Charybdis. When she swam away to distance herself, Scylla made a break for it and headed to the nearest land she could get too.
Charybdis followed…

Days later, she made her way back toward the Mediterranean. When she noticed she was being hunted, she hastened the pace. She crawled out onto the land just in time and made sure that she had some distance between them. That did not stop Charybdis from continue to stalk Scylla… She remained close as possible and followed the coast.
During this time, Scylla called out and pleaded with her friend in desperation. Words feel on deaf ears. Charybdis hardly reacted at all outside of beaching herself and trying to reach her target out of fury.

It seemed the only way Scylla was going to get anywhere was to ask for help… but from whom? She hardly trusted anyone to begin with after what humans have done to her and her family, and her family too was not exactly the most familiar of creatures.

Still, she had no choice. She had to find Hydra and her group or else all hope for Charybdis will be lost.
But first she had to somehow make sure Charybdis did not go anywhere. There wouldn’t be a point of getting help if Charybdis swam clear across the Atlantic and lost in the deep ocean again.
Since Chary was stalking her for the moment, Scylla used herself to lure the shark into a bay with steep cliffs and only one way out. It was a very tricky plan, but she managed it. Charybdis stalked and finally lunged, chasing after Scylla into the bay and all the way into the back. Quick as she could, Scylla slithered onto the land and caused and Avalanche at the only exit to the ocean, trapping Charybdis inside.

Enraged from the trick, Charybdis attacked the barrier with her teeth as if it was a living thing. Oh how it pushed so many buttons of being trapped in a prison for so long… Scylla felt her heart sank, watching the sight of her old friend being so devoured in her hatred and rage. It took all of her will to pull herself away from the scene to go find help.

It didn’t take long for her to pick up the trail of her sibling, Hydra. She started at the place she herself was once imprisoned and followed the faint enigma trail onward and outward. It led everywhere as she soon found out. All the way to the east, then the north, then south, then back north, west, east, and finally back south. By all that was good in Atlantis, it grinded against her nerves to be going all over the place and leaving Charybdis in that cut off section of water. What if she got out again during all this? It was a risk, but what else could be done?

At long, long last she found herself at the ruins of the one place she truly appalled, as many other Hyperborean’s and Atlantis’s culture hated; the ruins of Crete. Scylla had never slid one foot in the direction of this foul place due to the stories she heard.
She crept through the foul place until she came across the burn, mangled remains of the Minotaur… The sight of the dead body made her freeze and every hair on her body stand on end. After a few minutes, she slowly pulled herself around it, not daring to touch the thing that felt so evil.

She happily followed the trail outside of Crete and hoped she never had to trail through that foul place ever again.

Finally, over the hill, she found them. “Oh thank the mothers all divine womb, I found you!” she cried out, turning the heads of every monster and human in the group as she slithered her way down to the group.
Hyrda was the first to approach, of course. “Sssiister? You have come back… I would ask why, but it is all too good to see you again.”
It made her feel warm and happy for the moment. “Oh, that’s great to… see?” She noticed all the strange monsters and enemy golems all around. “…I see your quest has gone well.”
“In many waysss it has. Some old loose ends have been taken care of.”
“Quite,” piped Sphinx, pulling herself over to the conversation. “Oh dear sister, you positively look radiant.” Sphinx was always polite as possible, and knew her sister’s vanity well enough to say nice things.
Smiling, she nodded. “Indeed… But those golems…” she shook her head. Habits die very, very hard. “Listen, I need your help. I found Charybdis.”
Hydra blinked, eyes eyed. “She’s alive? I heard she died near the end of the war.”
“She didn’t. It was a whole disaster of its own when all that hellish disaster happened. She was sealed away, like the rest of us… But now, she’s awake.”
“Isn’t that good?” Sphinx seemed confused.
“No! She’s different. She’s still so angry and bloodthirsty like some rabid, wild animal! I tried to talk to her and I tried fighting her, but I can’t pull her down long enough to try and show I am not a threat.” All of her multiple heads showed worry and anxiety as she had explained.
Overhearing the whole debate, many other monsters and golems had come to listen. Theseus then spoke up. “But, is that not how she ended up being beat down in the first place? It seems whatever caused her to go berserk back then, still now causes her outrageous behavior…”
Oh how Scylla fumed over being talked to like that by a Golem. “What are you saying!?”
“Scylla, please calm down…”
“NO!” she snapped at Hydra. “He did so much wrong to us, as did the rest of the Hyperboreans. It seems that Perseus here is hinting we just forget her, or kill her!”
Theseus was quiet, hinting how close she was to the truth. But he still spoke up. “I do not say it because I want her death. I say it because it may be true. Look at the rest of us. We have set aside differences of our past war to make up for it. But if one of us is as mad and deranged as you say Charybdis is, then what more can we do?”
“Oh, don’t say that…” Scylla begged with pain in her voice.

Now, the entire time that Marian had been with the group, she had done very little since the Medusa incident. That and not many events involved the sea or ocean. In other words, she was useless the entire crusade and often came out and spoke for anything. But there she was, sitting with Lerna, listening and learning. But in the back of her mind, Marian felt Shairka grow so restless. The anxiety and concern of Shairka made her head ache. “Ah.. fuck…”
Lerna looked to her. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s Shairka. Something is wrong. She’s upset…” she grasped her head. It almost looked she was having
a fit.

Her twitching and moaning caused some of the monsters to focus on them. Sphinx got curious. “Young Marian, what is wrong with you?”
“Shairka is acting up.”
“Hm…” Sphinx thought, and thought… and wondered. “Shairka… that shark your BONDED too?”
“Yes…”
“How did you meet her.”
For a moment, Marian thought and recalled years ago when she met Shairka. “At the bottom of the ocean, in a container in some old ruins.”
Scylla remembered. “Yes, I remember now! Charybdis gave birth when she nearly died. It was sealed away in fear it would be dangerous like it mother at the time. You must have found her.”
That made sense to Marian. At least now she knew where Shairka came from and why they had a bond, and while excited and eager that she knew, Shairka’s empathy connection with her made her feel so somber.
Sphinx gently put a paw to her chin and thought. “We might be able to help her. I remember asking Athena about Charybdis once or twice as she was such a misfit of us and we saw so little of her. Curious cat, you could call me. I believe Charybdis was specifically created to be bonded with a human, to add more reason for her to protect humans. You feel her now, yes? Shairka? It may be possible Charybdis can be linked to Shairka and you as well through this bond.”
Lerna was confused. All this bonding stuff seemed silly, but with Kaiju, she could learn to understand it. “What are you saying, Sphinx?”
“I am saying that we may be able to help Charybdis. If we can subdue her long enough for Shairka and Marian to try and calm her, we might be able to pull her back to us before the madness that caused the major downfall of the nations. We just may be able to pull one of our friends back out of the darkness.”
Scylla’s eyes sparked, hope welling inside her. “Do you think so?”
“I would put my pride of riddles on the line, I am that sure. Where is she?”

And so the crusade headed back south, down toward the place of which Scylla had entrapped her friend. They gave Crete a long, wide birth, and ended up in their destination in a matter of days. Although, once there, the bay of in which Scylla had trapped Charybdis in was empty.

“Where is she? I left her right here…”
Sphinx thought for a moment. “She controls the water, yes? She may have caused a tidal wave and road out across the barrier and back into the sea.”
Scylla groaned.
“Not to worry,” Marian spoke aloud. “We got this. Those of us who can swim will chase after Charybdis. Who can swim?”
Slowly the hydrophobic Tyrantis took a step back, making it clear he was not volunteering. Give him a battle with a creature that was many times more powerful than he was and sure to kill him, but water was just out of the question outside of drinking it. Almost no one stepped forward for their own reasons. In fact, the only ones that did were Mishipizhew and Sphinx. “I may not be able to swim, but I can follow by air,” the winged feline had said.
“I suppose I can’t ask for more. It’s plenty anyway.” Marian looked around. “Me, Shairka, Scylla and Mishipizhew will track her down and deal with this.” She hoped that anyway. In the back of her mind, though, she could feel Shairka’s anxiety flutter like moths in her gut.
Not waiting a moment longer, she whistled out. A long moment passed and Shairka flew over the wall of water like a Killer Whale, landing in the bay and swimming into the shoreline. She looked to Lerna then. “Keep things in line, mkay?”
Lerna barely bubbled out “What?” as Marian ran down the shore to her kaiju. “…I do NOT understand that insane, crazy girl at all.” Still, she would stay with Tyrant Squad and could pass the time with learning more from Hydra and the Golems if in the meantime. Plenty to ask about Atlantis and Hyperborea to pass the time.

Riding atop Shairka’s head, she set out with the rest Scylla leading the search and Mishi not far behind and Sphinx high in the air. The general idea is that Chary would not be far off. She had no reason to travel very far. With one pair of eyes in the sky, it made it all the more easy.
Over and hour into the search, Sphinx spotted churning water in the distance. “There!” she pointed out as the water swirled and went down. A pod of whales was being ambushed from far beneath. What else could it be other than Charybdis?
Scylla made a B-Line for the direction and soon was upon the disturbance. Charybdis was swimming in clouds of blood that once belonged to cetaceans, being stirred into a fierce frenzy. As if things were not bad enough, now she was wild as she was going to get.
Twice already in her life she was forced to fight Charybdis and once attacked out of nowhere. Despite her feelings toward any allies, Scylla forced herself to lunge first. Like coiled snakes, she came out of nowhere and each head struck into the shark while she was distracted. The rough, sharp skin split and tore under the teeth and sent Charybdis into full fight or flight mode. Already fueled by blood, she chose fight.
The shark twisted like a drill, ripping free and quickly made distance. She was immediate to do a 180 and slammed head-first into Scylla and biting into her abdomen. It was an absolute mess. Scylla’s awkward anatomy made it difficult to dodge and counter.
Luckily, Mishipizhew came out of nowhere and dug his fangs deep into the base of the tail. It tore Charybdis free, but now she turned on him just as fast. Using her influence of water, the shark forced a vortex of water to slip from head to tail, virtually pushing the massive cat free from her.
Now Charybdis had two foes to fight, but she was far from deterred. She sunk fleets of ships and tore into many golems in mass number. Water around her flowed, creating a virtual field of swirling water as she swam out and back! Like a torpedo, she tore past her attackers, sending both of them swirling in a powerful current and flailing for balance. She came around again and homed in like a missile on Mishi. With a sickening crack, the poor lynx found his entire mid-section pierced with teeth and being carried off.
Surely the feline was doomed to be torn in half when the shark began to rag-doll him. Then the electrical surge erupted. The cat creature reached back and bite hard into Charybdis’s face, releasing a strong current and sending the electrical sensors into a frenzy and shock. He was released, with Charybdis shaking her head in numbness.
Seeing a chance, Scylla swam in to restrain her… but that was a mistake. Charybdis sensed her coming and swung her head wide and buying her teethe deep into the point where her waist.

From a distance, Shairka and Marian watched. Shairka, not being like other sharks, felt much emotion toward her birth mother and Marian herself could feel every emotion. Oh how burdening it was. Yet, Marian felt remorse for everyone here, she also knew that they could not sit by. “Sphinx! Pick me up!” She yelled out, calling her down. As she was climbed onto her massive her, Shairka swam down and toward the battle.

Scylla was being swung around and under threat of being ripped in half when Shairka came careening out of the blue and tee boned Charybdis, jaws open, knowing the victim free and being carried off. Now the battle changed by a drastic degree. Out of the three, Shairka was the only one that could match the aerodynamic build of Charybdis which had given her the advantage in nearly every fight.
Both sharks circled each other menacingly. Shairka was now too in an aggressive set of mind and Charybdis for the first time in ages feeling emotion beneath her blood frenzy, but still crazed; she was still in need of being subdued.
At least each shark charged head and collided, heads butting with a loud thump. Shairka’s teeth found hold on one of her mother’s fins, drawing blood and hindering her swimming. Where her body shape failed, her other traits picked up. Pulling in water, her body bloated every so slight and her sharp denticles prodded out. She rocketed toward the bottom and slammed herself against her daughter with all her might, attempting to impale and shred. Lucky for Shairka, both shared the similar armor and neither was seriously harmed.
Shairka was forced to release and left open to the teeth that dug deep around her neck. Shairka attempted to struggle, but Chardy would not allow her to move. She continued shoving down, pinning Shairka hard against the muddy bottom. Hardly moving and mud kicking up in thick clouds made it difficult for Shairka’s gills to process any oxygen.
Scylla had to pry the shark off as she came down with Mishy close behind. After Shairka was free of the jaws of her mother, Mishipizhew joined in and both monsters attempted to manhandle the raging fish. Sucking in a stadiums worth of water changed that as her body bloated out and pushing both of them away.
Full of water, Charybdis turned on Scylla and released the force, creating a strong current that pushed the multi-headed kaiju back. Mishi lunged from behind, biting down and shocking… But Chardy twirled and thrashed too violently to keep a hold.
It was at this point Shairka felt the current Mishipizhew was releasing. Being a rather smart shark for that matter and able to absorb thunderous current, she was quick to come up with a plan. Monsters could communicate rather well and she was quick to point out that she was immune to the feline’s thunderous attacks.
As Scylla was busy Charybdis yet again, both monsters worked in unison; Mishipizhew from the left, Shairka the right. Both lunged and tore deep with their teeth. As planned, Mishipizhew began to pour all of his current into the bite and into Charybdis! Shairka, being a basic conductor for electricity, captured the volts as they passed into her mother and finally to her. It was a perfect match! Charybdis was being shocked and had little room to struggle free from being electrocuted. Every nerve flashed and flesh burned. Before long, she blacked out cold.

The three of them had finally done it. Out cold, Charybdis was dragged back to where the rest of the crusade had waited. Many gathered to watch and waited for the creature to wake up. From the story Scylla and Marian told, no one wanted to be next to her when she woke up in case she was still as wild as a raging bull.
Luckily, she didn’t. Slowly the grey eyes opened, slowly staring around. She recognized some faces… such as the Golems. “No, NO! Charybdis, it’s alright!” Scylla begged and held her back, but the shark still looked unconvinced.
And so began that explanation of what was going on… which turned into a longer explanation from beginning to end, in detail and with many accounts from every kaiju and golem due to the face Charybdis kept a very, VERY stern and grouchy face. However she got it and believed them… and openly expressed her unhappiness cause of it with a snort of water at the rock beings.
Besides all of that, Scylla was happy. “Oh thank everything that is good things are alright.”
“They aren’t,” Marian solemnly said. “Shairka and Charybdis are well connected like I am to her… and I can feel this madness at the back of her mind. Something has scared her… and there is a hollow feeling.”
Hydra shook her head. “Charybdis was bonded to Poseidon as you are to Shairka.” She stared out at the mother and daughter, who calmly followed one another, which was the equivalent of catching up after being lost of each other for so long. “I fear that she may never be fine. I suppose that is partly our fault as it was our creators for never attempting to go out of our way to make any bonds with her. Maybe then she would not have broken so easily under all the madness.”
“I guess monsters care too, “ Hercules calmly stated.
“Of course we do.” Sphinx felt undignified. “What do you think we are, Monsters?” She caught herself quickly with “Don’t; do not answer that.” Past being the past and what not.
While that was going on, Marian was deep in thought with what they had said. If they left, Charybdis would most likely again delve into a mad rage and lost yet again. Maybe permanently for all anyone knew. She couldn’t allow all the hard work to fix it go to waste and let those who cared for the monster to feel as terrible as Shairka felt.
So, she made a decision. “Charybdis is important to Shairka… and Scylla, and to the rest of you Atlantean kaiju as well. If we leave her, she will break again. We can’t bring her with us, either.” She looked up to them. “Me and Shairka have to stay with her.”
Everyone stared at her. It made feel self-conscious, but she tried to hide that. Finally it was Hydra that spoke. “Yesss, that may be the only way. I should thank you for staying with us this long, and I do. You have not done much in our travels, but you had a purpose as well it seems.” Many in the crusade mumbled in agreement of that.
Marian turned to Lerna. “Seems you’re on your own now.” She then threw herself at Lerna, hugging her uncomfortably tight and leaving her complaining. “Gonna miss ya!”
“No, let go! I do NOT do hugs, Marian! Let me go!” She did, but Lerna grouchily straightened her ruffled clothing out and had to pick her hat up. The embarrassment wasn’t desired either as it just happened in the eyes of every monster and golem in the group.
“Be sure to come find me sometime,” she sang she said as she walked off.
“Yeah, or maybe not…” she mumbled quietly.

With that, Marian left with Scylla, Shairka and Charybdis. Marian decided to go back into the Atlantis ruins and explore new things. Scylla’s point of view would change on humans by a notable degree since Marian went out of her way to be there with them so Shairka could stay near Charybdis. The monsters said their farewells and immediately traveled onward toward their next destination.

But many had to wonder, particularly the fellow golems… whatever happened to Odysseus?

-???: Scylla finds Hydra and Tyrant Squad and select members of the group do go in to help. They search for Chary again and they find her, and end up getting into a bloody brawl. With the help of the aquatic members of Tyrant Squad, they subdue her and she calms. Marian and Shairka decided to stay with Charybdis and Scylla to keep her sanity in check.
-???: In the events that take place in Japan, Charybdis loses her life and dies very soon after the disaster passes.

Let it be known that this is done right and out of the way.
I wont say much more on why and such...

So mother of Shairka, Charybdis. The Atlantis Whirlpool, and yet another shark by my hand. I think I done more sharks then anything else... or maybe dinosaurs. Or Crocodiles.

Either way, shark. Nuff said.
